On March 29, Colorado Governor Hickenlooper signed in to law ‘Jake Snakenberg Youth Sports Concussion Act’ making Colorado one of the dozen or so states to enact legislation.  The bill requires that coaches receive education about concussion, that a student athlete is removed from the field of play if a concussion is suspected and that the student be signed off by a healthcare professional before returning to play. The Act will take effect January 1, 2012. Click here for a copy of the act.

FHA is taking a proactive stance in regards to the adherance to this new legislation.  Beginning with the 2011-2012 season ALL FHA coaches are required to complete the Mandatory Concussion Training below.  Failure to complete the training will result in removal of the coach from the bench/ice.

The training requires approximately 25 minutes to complete and you will be able to print a certificate of completion when finished.  This certificate MUST be on file in the FHA office in order to coach at FHA.

1. Presentation on Concussion Awareness

2. Mandatory Concussion Training

(Proof of having completed the mandatory concussion training is required for all FHA coaches.)

Beginning with the 2012-2013 Season, FHA has instituted mandatory Concussion Baseline Testing for all players at the PeeWee - Midget level.  The testing isn't appropriate for younger players and this is the only reason it is not being utilized for all age levels.  The Baseline testing provides a known healthy baseline to which a post-injury test result can be compared by a physician to aid in their professional diagnossis of a players ability to return to play.
