8 and Under Information

Explorers: 5 and 6 year olds

  • A Group: This group consists primarily of 5 & 6 year olds and represents our least experienced skaters
  • B Group: This group again consists primarily of 5 & 6 year olds but includes players with a more advanced skill set than the A level player
  • Players within each group will touch the ice twice per week
  • Children under the age of 5 who can demonstrate adequate skating skills are eligible for participation.
  • The 2008/2009 sesason runs from September to the first week of March.  The total cost for the season is $340.  

These dates are approximate and will updated as ice allocations are made.  Please contact the FHA Director of Hockey or Under-8 Age level Director for additional information.  Practices, scrimmages, and Jamborees will be conducted in a cross-ice (1/3 ice) format.


Challengers: 7 and 8 year olds

  • C Group : This group consists primarily of 7 & 8 year olds and with skill sets that are not quit comparable to the D level skaters
  • D Group: This group again consists primarily of 7 & 8 year olds and represents our players with the most advanced skill set in the 8-Under program
  • Players within each Group will receive approximately three touches per week
  • Players can expect to compete in approximately 20 scrimmages including up to four Jamborees
  • Practices for both groups are conducted in a ½ ice format
  • Scrimmages / Jamborees for the C-Level Skaters are conducted in  a ½ Ice format
  • Scrimmages / Jamborees for the D-Level Skaters are conducted in a ½ ice format prior to Thanksgiving and in a full ice format after Thanksgiving

The 2007-2008 season consists of approximately 26 weeks beginning the week after labor day and running into the first week of March. The cost for this program is $735.
