Volunteer Policy

Foothills Hockey Association relies on the volunteer efforts of its member families to fulfill our mission of delivering a rewarding hockey experience to our young athletes. 

We have many volunteer opportunities available that do not require a hockey background. All we need is your time and energy! Besides our volunteer Board of Directors, FHA is also looking for Locker Room Monitors, Fundraising Committee members, Tournament Coordinators, Event Planners, and more.

To ensure the safety of our athletes and volunteers, all prospective volunteers must complete the requirements for USA Hockey and CAHA by completing the volunteer checklist and registration PRIOR to to having regular contact with youth athletes or taking on any fiduciary responsibility on behalf of the organization.

Family Volunteer Hours

Families of each registered member are required to complete the following:

  • 10 hours of volunteer time for each registered U10 – U14 player
  • 6 hours of volunteer time for each registered U8 player

Throughout the course of the season (August through March). Families of members who do not complete the mandatory hours will be assessed an additional $250 fee at the end of the season. A MAX fee of $500 per family per season for families with multiple athletes.  

Volunteer hours will be tracked by FHA and Team Managers. Valid volunteer hours will include (but are not limited to); FHA hosted tournament and Jamboree game clock, score keeping, and front desk registration as well as volunteer hours associated with the responsibilities of fulfilling Board of Directors, Team Manager, and Coaching positions. Additional volunteer opportunities throughout the season will be made available for families. Volunteer opportunities will be clearly communicated using DIBs platform. Family members must pre-register and complete the obligated volunteer time to receive credit for their volunteer hours.  

Families will be given an opportunity at the time of registration to “opt-out” of the volunteer policy and will be invoiced the assessed fee for their player(s) ranging from $125-$400 per family dependent on their family status. Those who pay the designated “opt-out” fee will not be required to complete any volunteer hours. All other fees will be assessed at the conclusion of the season. All registering members will be required to acknowledge the volunteer policy and pre-authorize the designated fee should the minimum volunteer requirement not be met prior to season end. Families with multiple athletes must complete the designated number of volunteer hours for each registered member/athlete.  

Volunteer Checklist

Volunteers who are taking on a larger role within the organization, beyond fulfillment of the volunteer requirement and jobs posted on Dibs (Team Managers, Board Members, etc.), MUST complete the following additional registrations and certifications:

  1. Register as a Volunteer with USA Hockey
  2. Complete National Background Screen 
  3. Review USA Hockey and FHA SafeSport policies and procedures.
  4. Complete USA Hockey Safe Sport Training.  
  5. Complete FHA Volunteer Registration.
